Almost there...

Welcome to 'Backroads of Rio', the official CEO Sydney blog reporting on the journey of students and staff from CEO Sydney schools at World Youth Day 2013.

As I write, the  WYD experience is less than two weeks away for some pilgrims and excitement continues to build. Flights are booked, accommodation confirmed - in some cases, I suspect bags are half-packed. For the 330 students and staff soon to jump on a plane to the other side of the planet, departure day cannot come quickly enough. While there is a clear understanding and expectation that we are all all travelling to Rio (and to either Peru or Chile) as pilgrims, not tourists, it is hard not to be more than a little overawed by what to expect in a place so different from our own. For some students, it is their first time overseas - what a way to be begin your traveller experience!

The final WYD Formation Day was held recently at Australian Catholic University. This day was the culmination of many months of preparation led by CEO Sydney's Youth Ministry Coordinator David Cloran. Everything is pointing to WYD in Rio being something that each pilgrim, young and old, will never forget.

Follow the experiences of the students and staff as they set out on their spiritual adventure. You can log on simply by clicking the button on the CEO Sydney website, copying the link above or just by searching 'Backroads of Rio' on your search engine. You can comment on the blog  by logging in via your Google account. If you don't have one, it is very simple to set up. 'Backroads of Rio' is all about creating a close-at-hand account of what we will see and feel while on pilgrimage - we hope to make it real and raw. There will, of course, be lots of pics and even video interviews and video diaries.

We look forward to sharing with you our time on pilgrimage in the weeks ahead.
